A Competitive Month for Windsor Martial Arts
It’s been a major month of competition and growth for Apex. The team continues expanding, and with that growth comes a new identity for competitors: Silverback. This unified competition team brings athletes together from all affiliated schools under one banner, allowing better collaboration, stronger preparation, and higher-level performances in both kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
If you’re searching for kickboxing or jiu jitsu in Windsor, this level of activity and competition experience is exactly what separates a serious training academy from a casual gym.
At the Serbian Centre, two rising athletes stepped into the ring for their debut bouts:
Jake Girard – strong first performance showing composure and technique.
Simon Toma – earned a unanimous decision victory over Ahmed Aljazem in an impressive debut.
Coach Sebastian Giannotti also returned to action after a 2 year back injury, facing Mario Trifunovic. The fight went all three rounds in a technical striking battle. Though the decision didn’t go his way, it was a strong showing against a seasoned Muay Thai opponent after such a long recovery.
Earlier that day, eight of our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athletes competed at the NAGA Detroit Grappling Championship in Wayne, Michigan.
Team Results
3 Gold
6 Silver
4 Bronze
Despite some competitors entering higher divisions, most placed and Apex Silverback secured a 3rd place overall kids team award. That’s a strong indicator of technical coaching, disciplined training, and a supportive competitive environment.
For anyone researching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Windsor, results like these demonstrate a program that develops real tournament-ready skills.
At Unified 67 held at the Hyatt Regency in Calgary, Ljae Simminz faced veteran Tim Shady Smith.
The fight was explosive from the start, featuring heavy exchanges and a dramatic knee strike that opened the door for Simminz to secure a rear naked choke victory in round three. Following the win, he was awarded his purple belt by coach Cesar Bonilla—a milestone that reflects both skill and dedication.
